Ultrasound to Measure Growth & Fluids - 28w5d

Yesterday was my first full ultrasound during inpatient. They brought the machine to my room and decided that this week they would measure the babies. Here's what they found!

TWIN A
Position: Breech (head up, on maternal left side)
Gestational Age according to size: 28w/0d
Weight: 2lbs 8oz (41%)
Heart rate: 137 bpm
Fluid: 7cm

TWIN B
Position: Vertex (head down, on maternal right side)
Gestational Age according to size: 27w/5d
Weight: 2lb 6oz (36%)
Heart rate: 147 bpm
Fluid: 6.9cm

YAY! Good news all around! The twins have a difference of 5% between them which is pretty remarkable when you consider that a month ago there was a 24% difference. The ultrasound tech said that the movement she was seeing was fantastic (no major surprise there considering how hard it is to get their fetal monitors set up each day!).

The doctor has decided to schedule another ultrasound for Friday because there was an abnormal reading in the width of Twin A's right ventricle in his brain. The normal range for that measurement is below 10 and one side measured at 10.3. Now this is nothing to worry about yet because it could very well be an issue with the angle at which the measurement was taken. There is no evidence of it being an indicator for issues and usually when they see something like that it is reflected on both sides of the brain and reads above 15. Better to be safe than sorry though so we'll check again on Friday.

My Mom bought some hospital themed toys for Juniper to play with when she is here. She found a nurse barbie that is caring for twins! No joke! She has a stethoscope, clipboard, bottles, the two babies who are in their own little bassinets on the same rolling cart. She also got a little ambulance car that makes all kinds of sounds and has flashing lights & a hospital bag that has a kid stethoscope, needle, bandaid bracelet, thermometer and blood pressure cuff. All great things for her to play with here so that this environment doesn't seem nearly as scary.

Things are going well here at the hospital. The nursing staff is absolutely amazing and I am getting to know them really well :) I've decorated my room a bit with a quilt from my Mom, a silk scarf which is draped across the couch and some flowers in the window. I've had a lot of company since I got here too. It is always wonderful to see family and friends.

The daily routine here has started to feel a little more like just that, a routine, and that has made the days go by a little faster recently. Still crocheting that blanket but I think I am close to having it done. Wonder which project I should tackle next.

One week down, 6 to go!

With Love,
Whitney
