More good news.... I PASSED MY 3 HOUR GLUCOSE TEST!! I'm super excited!
Next doctor visit is Wednesday and hopefully the babies will behave and we'll be able to find out gender! It sound like this appointment is going to be where they check out everything on each baby. Every organ, every vertebra, every toe, everything. Can't wait :)
Even though we are two months into knowing about the twins, I am still getting used to the reality of having 2 newborns come May. There are a ton of things that we still need to figure out. The main issue I am working on right now is sleeping arrangements. We have 3 bedrooms in our house. One bedroom on the main level which we use as a guest room, Juniper's bedroom & the master are both upstairs. We would LOVE to keep the bedroom on the main level as a guest room/kids play room but that means that we need to transition Juniper's room into a room for all the kids. We plan on keeping the twins in our room in the beginning because of all the night feedings but eventually they will all be in the other room upstairs.
Juniper is still in a crib but I would love to transition her to a toddler bed before the twins get here so that she doesn't feel like she is getting pushed out of her crib by the twins. A coworker from my years at Laika builds toddler beds with built-in lights in the headboard. They are so much fun! I am in talks with him to build a custom bed for Juniper to get as a birthday present for her 2nd birthday in March.
With Juniper in her own toddler bed, that means that the twins can share the crib until we need to separate them around 6 months or whenever they start rolling over. That little room is going to be very full with a dresser, toddler bed and eventually 2 cribs but I think it will be nice to have all the kids upstairs with us.
We also got health insurance figured out. Since we know going into this that we are going to be at the hospital every other week for regular visits and that there is a really good chance that the twins will be in the NICU for a period of time, we are going to be using the max out-of-pocket probably by the end of May. So we looked at all the plans, added together the monthly premium and the max-out-of-pocket, and looked to see which one was the cheapest. Low and behold, the premium insurance through Greg's work was the cheapest in the end after we did the math. We are all signed up and excited to not get a $350 bill after every doctor visit and lab test.
Three carseats cannot fit into either the Honda CR-V or the Mazda 3 Sedan we have so, yeah, we are shopping for minivans. After a ton of research and reading we have found that the Toyota Sienna is really the best vehicle for us. We want a vehicle that:
- will last us a LONG time
- has lots of storage for all our camping and road trip expeditions
- has AWD or 4 wheel drive so that we can get to BEND and back to visit the in-laws without worrying about whether the car can handle it (my request)
- has removable captains chairs in the second row (yeah, go on ahead and try to wrap your mind around getting 3 tinies out of a second row bench seat). With captain's chairs in the second row, we can remove one of the seats and I can access the 2 twins in the 3rd row and Juniper in the remaining captain's chair. Our logic may be completely backwards once the twins are here but the Sienna gives us the flexibility to just roll with it and figure it out as we go
- Heated seats (Greg's request)
- Under $30,000, this means that we are looking at a 2013-2016 model but the Sienna has gotten great reviews for all those years.
There are a couple Sienna's that I am keeping my eye on but unfortunately they have those stupid Takata airbags that need to be replaced. The dealership has no clue when that will be done so I will probably need to keep bugging the dealership.
Let the countdown to Wednesday begin! So what do you think? 2 boys or 2 girls?
Love,
Whitney
