After 4 weeks of not so good news we finally had a GREAT ultrasound! Here's the measurements:
Twin A:
Fluid: 8.2cm (was 10cm)
Weight: 2lb 4oz
Age according to overall size: 27w/2d
Twin B:
Fluid: 6.7cm (was 2.7cm)
Weight: 2lb even
Age according to overall size: 26w/1d
Size difference: 11% (was 24%)
Age difference according to size: 1w/1d (was 2w/0d)
The doctor said at this point, if the twins were born today, they would do ok in the NICU now that they are showing so many signs of healing and growth. We are out of the scariest part of the post-op time and although we need to be keeping our eyes out for the normal distress signs (pre-term labor, cramping, bleeding, etc.) we should be through the worst part of TTTS. I will still continue to go in for doctor visits and ultrasounds every week. They will take growth measurements every other week. Fetal heart monitoring will start around 32 weeks and I have to do another 3 hour glucose test next week to check for gestational diabetes. If the twins continue to show signs of improvement then there is a chance that I will be able to make it to 34-ish weeks. That seems to be about as long as the doctors have seen mamas go after having gone through the TTTS surgery. Let's see if we can keep them in until mid-May. It's crazy to think about considering how HUGE I feel already. Even though I am only 27 weeks pregnant I am the same size as a 40 week singleton pregnancy. Guess we'll see how large I can get in the next 2 months.
All in all, today's ultrasound was a HUGE RELIEF!! I can't tell you how good it felt to see both twins with normal fluid levels, moving all over the place, kicking and squirming away. We had a feeling that they had made progress considering how much more movement I have been feeling this week. We finally got to see Twin B's profile again, he's such a cutie already! We hadn't seen him in over a month because of how stuck he was.
So here we are, 27 weeks tomorrow and I finally felt good enough to wash all the baby boy clothes I have been collecting. Things could still go wrong but you know what? We're at 27 weeks and that feels like a major accomplishment.
Here's to keeping these boys cooking for as long as I can.
With love,
Whitney
